More Kiwi Trucks in the 80s

New Zealand Road Services which was a division of NZ Railways operated this V8 detroit powered Bedford TM from Masterton. It is seen here unloading concrete blocks for the construction of Firestone Tyres new premises in Masterton's Chapel St.

A Fuso of Refrigerated Freight Lines and a Mercedes Benz of Modern Freighters fuel up at Wairakei. Both of these refrigerated freight companies no longer exist.

Modern Freighters were a big Mercedes customer (although a Nissan can be seen in the background). These two LK1924s are parked up in the companies yard at Levin on the West coast of NZs North Island.

Freightways Napier yard was always full of interesting trucks on a weekend. In this photo are several R and F model Macks, three Australian Internationals, a Pacific, an Isuzu badged as a Bedford withe a Volvo each side, a Fiat, three Oshkosh, a TK Bedford and a couple of D series Fords.

LK model Scanias (set forward front axle) were common in Australia, but a few found their way to NZ. Neal Machirus operated this LK111, seen here outside a truck show in Palmerston North. The hand written signage, on the side of the load, is reference to a rugby game score.

This model cab on an ERF was fairly common in NZ, although we did have the normal B series cab as well. This low loader pulled by a 1972 66CU250 was operated by Alan Brownell of Pahiatua. Pahiatua is a small rural town abou 45 minutes North of Masterton.
